Redesign of Yamaha’s app MyRide, with focus on expanding Yamaha’s community and increasing user engagement
What if a riding app could capture not only the route, but the actual feeling? Behind every ride there is more than speed and distance; there is a human need for community.
Overview
In this project, we reimagined Yamaha Motor’s app MyRide to turn every ride into a shared experience. By enhancing usability and adding engaging social features, we brought the rider community closer together by putting the thrill and freedom of motorcycling at the heart of the digital experience 🏍️
Challenge
Yamaha provided the following brief: “We’re looking to evolve our native app, MyRide. How might we increase user engagement and build a stronger community of motorcycle enthusiasts who share a passion for riding? For many, this isn’t just a hobby – it’s a lifestyle. We want to give users better ways to experience, document, and connect through their rides.” This brief wasn’t just about usability; it was about emotion, identity and community. Our challenge was to redesign MyRide into a more immersive and social experience that reflects what motorcycling truly means to its users.
Process
I apply Design Thinking to guide my process. It’s never linear, but iterative: shaped by testing, feedback and continuous refinement to ensure solutions that truly address the core problem.
Solution
We delivered Yamaha MyRide 2.0 – RIDEX, an app that truly captures the spirit of motorcycling with intuitive, user-focused features. Riders can experience, record and share their journeys effortlessly.
We set the tone with the slogan: Experience, capture and visualise! 🏍️
Impact
We shared the final app with several users and received highly positive feedback. They found it much more appealing than Yamaha’s current MyRide, both visually and functionally. Riders with different motivations all felt inspired by the design and eager to use it. One rider with 20+ years of motorcycle experience said: “This is so much better and sleeker than the usual app! It makes me want to ride and I love watching others’ routes as videos to find new places.”
Completed main tasks without guidance
Felt more inspired and motivated to ride
Would recommend RIDEX to a fellow rider
